Whether you’re stopping for a quick visit or planning a longer stay, the park is designed for accessibility and relaxation.

Unforgettable Views of the Matanzas River

One of the standout features of Dr. Robert B. Hayling Freedom Park is the breathtaking view of the Matanzas River. As you ride along the trails, you’ll be treated to sweeping vistas of the water, with its sparkling surface reflecting the Florida sky.

The park’s location along the riverbank gives it a serene, postcard-worthy atmosphere. Be sure to stop at one of the scenic overlooks, where you can pause to take in the sights, snap some photos, or simply enjoy the calming sound of the water.

On clear days, you can spot boats gliding along the river, native birds soaring overhead, and the vibrant colors of the surrounding landscape. It’s a picture-perfect scene that’s worth taking your time to enjoy.

For Birdwatchers and Nature Photographers

Approximately 13 acres of uplands are surrounded by hundreds of acres of salt marsh, offering expansive views of a natural area where over 140 bird species have been documented. Walk or bicycle the ½ mile long paved trail that loops around the peninsula while enjoying year-round viewing of numerous kinds of wading and shore birds in the salt marsh adjacent to the park. Roseate Spoonbills and Clapper Rails are frequent visitors. In the winter, a greater variety of birds visit the park. Look overhead for Northern Harriers, American Kestrels and Bald Eagles, and sparrows and warblers foraging in the brush and ground cover. Nine species of sparrows have been documented at this location, including Nelson’s, Seaside, Saltmarsh and Savannah Sparrow.
